City Reaches Agreement with Developer of Ocean Village at Hollywood Beach

Project  is a “Catalyst” for Future Development

HOLLYWOOD, FL – The City of Hollywood announced today that a development agreement has been reached with Ocean Properties LLC for the luxury hotel complex, Ocean Village at Hollywood Beach, located at Johnson Street and the Broadwalk.

The much anticipated $80 million project will be built on six acres of City owned land in the heart of Hollywood Beach next to the famed Johnson Street Beach Theater. Today’s agreement includes the development of a 320-350 room hotel that will feature a  magnificent pool, upscale beachfront restaurants, luxurious spa and a grand ballroom. In addition, the agreement provides for a 1,600-parking space garage, and 87,000 square feet of prime retail/restaurant space.

Ocean Village at Hollywood Beach, which boasts unique oceanfront and intracoastal views, will also feature 13,000 sq. ft. of restaurant, retail and passive parks areas.

“We have a project that certainly will make Hollywood, Florida a destination for tourists around the world,” said City Manager Cameron Benson. “This project is a catalyst for overall development opportunities along Hollywood Beach.”

The site, once home of the popular Hollywood Beach Casino, is located within the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), Beach District. The Casino closed in the 1920s.

“This project meets the vision set forth by the Mayor and City Commission,” said Gil Martinez, Executive Director of the Hollywood Beach CRA. “Moving forward, the benefits of this project will bring Hollywood Beach to the attention of high-end retail, restaurant and hotel operators, further positioning us a world-class tourist destination.”

Ocean Properties LLC, owned by the Walsh family, developed the Hollywood Beach Marriott and hundreds of other properties around the country.  City Manager Cameron Benson and his staff met weekly with representatives of Ocean Properties to develop a premier site and improve financial terms for the project.

“For decades, the City has sought a premier project for this site to serve as a catalyst to spark quality redevelopment on Central Beach,” said Mayor Mara Giulianti. “Obviously, we’ve found that project.”
